Al Minya governorate is located approximately 245 km (152 miles) south of Cairo on the western bank of the Nile and has a total population of 221,547.
On 9 July 2010, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Africa invited representatives from the Egyptian press and media to participate in house-building activities in Al Kom Al Akhdar village along with its employees from El Gouna, Taba, Pyramids, Media City, El Sokhna and the Africa Area Office, in addition to a representative from Egypt Air.
The team worked in three different houses, and all enjoyed various activities including plastering walls, sifting sand, mixing and carrying cement and painting. After finishing, the team toured the village where they saw other houses which were built within the agreement between the two organizations, including the environmental low cost house.
