Morocco seeks Indian investment in tourism

Times of India 13 December, 2003 Describing Morocco as the gateway to both Africa and the Arab world, its Prime Minister Driss Jettou  sought Indian investment in areas like IT, tourism,  industry and agriculture.

"Morocco offers a rich and widely diversified potential as it is strategically located on both the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, with seven miles from Europe and serves as a gateway to both Africa and Arab world," he said.    Morocco offered tremendous opportunities in areas like agriculture, fisheries, tourism and minerals, especially in view of its free trade agreements with US, EU, Turkey and some Mediterranean countries.

Recognising India's importance in the global arena, Jettou said the country was a great democracy and its "clout as an emerging economy with a bright future" and Morocco wanted the business communities to broaden new scopes for joint cooperation.

He also extended the Moroccan government's commitment to provide "all facilities and support to economic and commercial initiatives" by Indian entrepreneurs and sought to take bilateral business cooperation to "levels that will mirror our excellent political ties that will serve as a role model for South-South cooperation".

"The progress we have made in implementing the agreements we reached, during previous meetings, is a source of satisfaction and pride for ourselves," he added.
