www.walksworldwide.com Due to overwhelming demand, Walks Worldwide has added two new departure dates to its challenging, fully guided, 10-day Gorges and the Petra Trek in Jordan – extra dates from London 21st October 07 and 2nd April 08. There are limited places still available on 12th October and 11th April 08 dates too.Now referred to as ‘the Inca Trail’ of Jordan, Walks Worldwide’s inspirational walking exploration to this wild and beautiful country has proved incredibly popular with all budding pioneers out there. Exploring lesser-known areas, the emphasis is on discovery, trailblazing a route through the Mujib Gorge and walking the innovative new trail from Dana Nature Reserve to Petra. This challenging but stimulating itinerary should appeal to all those who have previously travelled to Jordan and also for those looking for something a little different. The first focus of the tour is the stunning Mujib Gorge, alongside the Dead Sea shoreline. It takes about 45 minutes (uphill to start with) through dry desert, to walk to the top of the canyon, where the crystal-clear water enters the clean-cut gorge. Wading downstream through the pleasantly warm water, negotiating pools, cascades and boulders, walkers reach the 20m waterfall, down which the accompanying qualified guide will lower them by rope in total safety – one of the highlights of the trip! Afterwards, there is time for lunch and a float in the Dead Sea, not at the same time though! Time to enjoy some truly ‘off-the-beaten-track’ trekking through the bewitching semi-arid landscape of the Abu Skakeen region, following ancient Bedouin and hunters’ trails. Nights will be spent camping Bedouin-style, with evenings experiencing true Bedouin food and lifestyle. Following trails cut across the contours of the mountainsides, and through the maze of rock pinnacles, Wadi Araba viewpoint is reached, where fascinating landscapes stretch out towards the famed site of Petra. Entering the magical site of Petra by the unusual Monastery route, early in the morning, means walkers should have the place almost to themselves. The tour concludes with two full days of desert excursions in Wadi Rum utilising 4x4-vehicle and camel support, and a magical night spent at a wonderful desert camp, under the stars in open-roofed tents, drinking tea with the Bedu.
