www.equineadventures.co.uk Ride the finest-bred Arabian horses through one of the most spectacular and historic landscapes in the world, following in the footsteps of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Indiana Jones’, during a 10-day riding adventure with Equine Adventures amongst the deserts of Jordan’s Wadi Rum and the Great South, departing London 20th October and 17th November 2006.
After arrival in Amman, the trek goes through desert lands where the adventure commences with a full day exploring the ancient Nabatean city of Petra. Carved from the living rock, amongst the canyons of Jordan’s south, the site proved and ideal location for spectacular scenes in ‘Indiana Jones – The Last Crusade’.
The first night is spent in a comfortable hotel within Wadi Mousa, the Valley of Moses. After breakfast the transfer is by road along a scenic route to Rum Farm: then the five days of exhilarating desert riding begins.
Accompanied by a French guide and local Bedouin, the ride is through the vast expanses of Jordan’s extraordinary desert landscape with towering wind-sculpted rock formations, including the ‘Seven Pillars of Wisdom’ immortalised in T.E. Lawrence’s memoirs.
The highlight is crossing the wild sands and valleys of the three stunning Wadi’s of Titen, Lebanan and Yetem and the timeless deserted plains east of the Rum Massif and within the heart of the Wadi Rum itself. Nights on safari are spent under star-filled skies in desert camps. The trek ends with a night in Aqaba, spending the day shopping in its colourful souks or perhaps resting along the coral rich coast of the Red Sea and returning to Amman for homeward flights. Throughout the ride terrain changes from deep sand dunes to stony plains, valleys and hard sand in dry oases. Riders need to be fit and confident to lead horses through sand.
