After the terrorist attacks, Jordanian authorities have struggled to save the country's tourist season. In a statement the Jordanian Tourist Board said:
"Over the last decade, and in the last five years, Jordan has moved confidently towards socioeconomic development and aggressive growth. Our exports to international markets have reached unprecedented levels, our stock exchange has shown remarkable vitality, foreign and domestic investments are flowing steadily into a thriving economy, our tourism sector is witnessing a quantum leap in infrastructure development and inbound tourist figures. We have achieved an admirable level of determination and resilience in spite of the various challenges that surround us.
Our progression forward as a country, and our resilience, hand in hand with that of other nations, is what makes these challenges surmountable. As tragic and as heart-rending as this inhumane incident has been to everybody, and while our deepest thoughts are with the victims and their families, we are determined and committed to ensure tourism continues to be enjoyed and favored by our friends and visitors from all over the world.
Tourists are continuing to enjoy their stay in Jordan, confirming their confidence and will to move past such events. Today, two cruise ships docked in Aqaba and their passengers are now enjoying trips to Wadi Rum and Petra; in addition, some 300 U.S. visitors arrived this afternoon. Also, after consultation with tour operators running activities within Jordan, we are finding out visitors from Europe and the Far East are continuing with their plans to visit the country.
The Jordan Tourism Board and its member organizations wish to extend their gratitude to all tourists and tour operators for their understanding and confidence. We look forward to continue welcoming you to our unique and spectacular country."
