New Festival of Electronic Music: Berlin Music Days in September
Electronic music has its own music festival now: the Berlin Music Days, or BerMuDa for short. From September 16 to 19, 2009, proponents of electronic dance music will be presented in Berlin's best clubs. In coming years, the Berlin Music Days should go on to become a regular date among internationally renowned music festivals. Downbeat of the Concert Season:

Berlin's new concert season begins with the greatest orchestras of the world. At the musikfest berlin 09, which will run from September 3 to 21, more than twenty international ensembles can be heard, including the Chicago Symphony and the London Symphony. The highlights of this year's classical music festival will be works by Dmitri Shostakovich, Iannis Xenakis, and Joseph Haydn.
Cruisin' By the Tunes
Historic boats on the river, musicians lining the banks - the Spree Parade on September 5 offer adventures for the eyes and ears. The variety of styles to be presented includes classical, pop, brass bands, and choirs. The public will cruise along the Spree River and listen to the performances on land.
Radialsystem V Celebrates Its Third Birthday
Radialsystem V will be celebrating its third birthday on September 6 with "Radial Nights" and a big party. On top of that, during three long nights from September 10 to 12, music and dance can be experienced on all floors of the building. Among other things to be seen are excerpts from the celebrated production "Dialoge 09 - Neues Museum" ["Dialogs 09 ? New Museum"] by Sasha Waltz. The public is invited to look and listen, stroll and enjoy.
The Best in Fireworks
Since the international elite of track and field traveled to Olympic Stadium in August, now it's the turn of the world's best pyrotechnicians. On September 4 and 5, brilliant fireworks will be set off on the Maifeld, the gigantic field behind the stadium. Artists from Turkey will draw crowds with "Magic Sky Painting with Fire", while South Africa will set off "Fireworks for Africa".The 2009
Berliner Liste
As an art fair for the newcomer, this year's Berliner Liste will be dedicated especially to the Eastern European art scene. Examples of the representation include Romania and Latvia. A total of sixty galleries from fourteen countries will be in attendance and present their artists from September 24 to 27 at the Palais am Tiergarten.
Thomas Demand in the New National Gallery
From September 18, 2009 to January 17, 2010, the New National Gallery in Berlin will be putting on the largest single exhibition to date of the artist Thomas Demand in Germany. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the show will be devoted to images by the artist that refer to recent German history. Among these are also numerous works that are being shown in public for the first time.
Orient meets Occident: International Literature Festival Berlin
Prose and poetry from the lands of Arabia are the focus of the 9th International Literature Festival Berlin from September 9 to 19 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The program will include readings, talks with authors, discussions, and films. An opening address will be provided by Indian author Arundhati Roy.
Mobile Art Project for the Fall of the Wall Anniversary
The memories of residents of Berlin who lived at and with the wall have been captured by an interactive sculpture that can be seen through November 9 at various locations in the city. "Wanderboje" ["The Wandering Buoy"] is the name of the project by a Berlin artist couple. They have collected individual memories and stories of various Wall locations and made them visible on an LED screen.
Experience the Deep Sea in the Heart of Berlin
A special exhibition of the Museum of Natural History will carry visitors off to the secrets of the ocean from September 15, 2009 to January 15, 2010. "Tiefsee" ["Deep Sea"] will show fish with enormous teeth and flesh-eating jellyfish. On top of that, a model of a diving bell and a virtual submarine trip will show visitors the riches of today's deep sea research. |
