The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) opened its new office in Dubai to represent the GCC. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by H. E Walter Leuchs, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany on Monday, 6th June, 2005 at Prasino’s Restaurant, Jumeirah Beach Club.
"The official opening of the new office of GNTB in Dubai marks an important step forward in tourism cooperation between the Middle East and Germany. The office will contribute to the tourism cooperation and strengthen ties in various forms between two nations" said, Petra Hedorfer, Chief Executive Officer German National Tourist Board.
Mrs. Heike Murad, GCC Manager States further explained the philosophy of the opening ceremony, “For the first time the German National Tourist Board is present in the Middle East and it’s a great pleasure to have this challenge of promoting Germany out of a region which is itself highly promoted all over the world. The cultural attractions are one of the main reasons why tourists from all over the world come to Germany. And there are many other worthwhile reasons like the landscapes, the fascination of seas, lakes and rivers and the variety of cosmopolitan cities or enchanting smaller towns. We feel there is enormous potential and growth in the GCC States and would like to further enhance the positive image of Germany as a travel destination in this region. I am eager to build fruitful relationships with a lot of the tourism partners from the GCC region as well as Germany in order to bring them together and enhance the tourism growth in Germany. As a sport nation, Germany is already in fever of excitement for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2006TM. Last but not least we will give an impression of the warm hospitality and good service within the German tourism industry.”
In 2004, the number of overnight stays from the GCC states increased by 15.1% and the total number of overnight stays was 512, 287. The period from January to March 2005, incoming travel from the GCC to Germany, rose in the first three months of the year by 11.1 per cent to more than 85,546 overnight stays. By the end of 2005 we expect again a growth potential of 15% compared to 2004.
Mr. Uwe Wriedt, General Manager, Passenger Sales UAE & Director Gulf and Pakistan, said, “Lufthansa as Germany's National Carrier is proud to join hands with the newly established German National Tourism Board - office in Dubai. Lufthansa and the German National Tourist Board will show its presence in the region thus striving to demonstrate to the public the touristic strengths of Germany. Lufthansa together with its Regional partners does fly to all major and Regional German airports, thus providing the densest network within Germany.” He further continued, “Lufthansa German Airlines welcomes the opportunity to present not only the Beauty of Germany but the National Carrier Lufthansa as well.”
