Extensive Renovations To Malaysia’s National Museum

www.nst.com The National Museum in Kuala Lumpur is undergoing massive renovation work that will be completed in 10 months. Only the annex building, housing the Golden Gallery and the Maritime Archaeology Gallery, remains open.
Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim announced last September that the RM20 million renovations would be modelled after the Tun Hussein Onn memorial. The work involves the building’s internal structures and the presentation of exhibits using ICT technology.
Rais said the facelift would make the presentation of its exhibits more appropriate for visitors who would find the exhibits in chronological order, allowing an easy understanding of the nation’s history.
The National Museum, which celebrated its 44th anniversary on Aug 31, is also the headquarters of the Malaysian Museums Department (formerly known as the Museums and Antiquities Department). |
