Tourist arrivals to Malaysia for the month of February 2006 stood at 1.38 million visitors. This represents a 2.8% increase compared to the same period the previous year, the Ministry of Tourism (www.tourism.gov.my) reported.
The year 2006 began on a positive note for the tourism industry. In January, tourist arrivals to Malaysia registered 1.45 million visitors followed by 1.38 million visitors in February, thus signifying the continuation of a positive trend of registering one million visitors per month. Cumulatively, the total tourist arrivals for January and February 2006 stand at 2.83 million (2,838,282) visitors, an increase of 3.8 % compared to 2005.
Markets with double digit growth are: Russia (80.9 %), Hong Kong (66.4%), France (37%), Scandinavia (27.3%), Thailand (27.2%), Germany (21%), West Asia (19.8%), Indonesia (18.3%), South Africa (17.7%), United Kingdom (14.7 %) and the United States of America (10.6%). |
