Malaysia Focuses On Chinese Market

www.nst.com According to Tourism Malaysia’s deputy director general I, Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, the China sector has become more important now and efforts are being stepped up to help counter the current negative perception of how Malaysia treats foreign nationals.
“In actual fact, Tourism Malaysia already has a delegation in China explaining the situation and addressing the distortion of news about Malaysia in China,” Mirza said.
He said Tourism Malaysia will be intensifying its Make It Malaysia (MIM) China programme. He was speaking at a Press conference held in conjunction with another MIM programme – Make It Malaysia-Europe – at Berjaya Langkawi Resort and Spa in Pulau Langkawi.
The MIM programme is an extension of Tourism Malaysia’s Mega Familiarisation programme held for the past five years. It is especially dedicated to the members of the media and tour consultants to familiarise them with Malaysia and the country’s attractions.
This year, Tourism Malaysia has conducted MIM programmes for Japan, Europe and China. Mirza acknowledged that both China and India are big markets in terms of potential tourists.
At the same time, he said the European market has stagnated, so the MIM Europe programme has been introduced to bring in the tour operators and members of the media to show them the latest developments in the country.
Plans are in the pipeline to boost European tourist arrivals. Mirza said Malaysia Airlines plans to increase flights from France from twice weekly to daily soon. On top of that, winter charter flights from Russia are also expected to be increased.
