www.nst.com Fresh from its surprise win with Tourism Malaysia’s Educational Tourism Tour Package Award, the owners of Sabah Tea Plantations are eager to embark on more programmes.
The Sabah Tea Garden, at the foothills of the majestic Mount Kinabalu, is a fairly new tourism product.
“Its cool climate and lush landscapes, the educational tour of the entire tea-making process and other activities make the tea garden an ideal location for school field trips, company incentive group outings or fun family weekend getaways,” said Sabah Tea Sdn Bhd executive director Goh Mung Chwee.
The Tea Garden is also the location for the annual Sabah Tea Adventure Race which sees race enthusiasts from as far as Denmark, France, Italy and United Kingdom taking part.
“The national level award signifies a great deal of recognition for the tea garden and we now have a new team working hard to make Sabah Tea Garden a choice destination for tourists.
“Though we have made tremendous progress, not many tourists know about us despite our facilities that can accommodate over 400 guests,” said Goh.
Thanks to the award, the situation might change.
The company has introduced several packages starting with its 2D/1N programme, which includes a jungle adventure, river knowledge programme and obstacle courses. There are also custom-made packages for company employee-training.
Guests can stay in a guest house, bungalow or a traditional Rungus longhouse erected by Rungus natives, complete with blessing rituals.
The Tea Garden concept is in line with the State Government’s aim to promote Sabah as a nature adventure destination while educating visitors on the tea business and environmental conservation. |
