Johor Invites Arab Tourists

www.nst.com Johor, with its beautiful island resorts, has what it takes to become the playground of rich Arabs. With this in mind, the State Government is mounting an aggressive marketing and promotion effort in the Middle East.
State Executive Council member Freddy Long said Johor was an attractive proposition to the Arabs because of the attractive currency exchange rate.
He said Johor’s islands were the perfect holiday spots for Middle Eastern tourists on honeymoon or holiday.
Long, who heads the Tourism portfolio, said Johor’s golf courses and eco-tourism facilities were also a big draw with these tourists.
About 40 tour operators in the Middle East have shown interest in organising tour packages to Johor this year, he added.
"During my recent visit to Dubai, tour operators there had indicated their interest to organise holiday packages for golfers and those who want to have their honeymoon on island resorts," he said after launching the State-level "Cuti-Cuti Ma- laysia" campaign yesterday.
"They have chosen Malaysia, particularly Johor, which has the most number of golf courses and island resorts.
"They (the Arabs) are not really interested in shopping or theme parks which are plentiful in many other countries, including theirs.
"Johor has the unique tourism resources and competitive prices compared to many neighbouring countries. This is our strong point against many other players."
Long said the Johor Tourism Action Council would organise a familiarisation tour for Arab tour operators to promote the various tourism resources in Johor, particularly golf courses and island resorts.
There are 38 golf courses and more than 20 island resorts in Johor.
Long said the State Government would appoint Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to conduct a study on the tourists’ tastes. |
