Morib: Ideal For Family Outings
|

www.nst.com With all the attention on the up-and-coming township of Sepang and another established resort town of Port Dickson nearby, Morib seems to be increasingly forlorn and unwanted.
But defeated, it is not. Though without the advantage of golden sands and swaying palms, the beach located some 20 minute from Banting is still a place for family outings.
At low tide, its flat shallow shore can sometimes stretch to more than one km into the Straits of Malacca and has its own unique charm.
Children, in particular, can enjoy the vast beach chasing mud crabs into their holes and running into patches of trapped water.
However, first-timers might not know the beach is actually accessible from two points. The "old beach" is clearly visible from the road. A new stretch though is comparatively shielded and can only be reached through a narrow road off the main road to Sepang.
The old beach is usually where events and activities like the Pesta Rakyat and beach carnival are held.
It is a well-equipped recreational beach with facilities like a tourist centre, viewing/guard towers, football field, gasing (top spinning) court, remote-controlled car race track, children's playground and food stalls.
At a corner, there is a monument erected in remembrance of Indian troops fighting under the British flag who landed at the shore after the Japanese had surrendered.
The inscription on the monument reads: The 46th Indian Beach Group landed here on 9 Sept 1945 and handled across the beaches 42,651 personnel, 3,968 vehicles and 11,224 tons of stores.
It is also engraved with the names of the group's members from several Indian army and supply units.
All the structures are separated from the flat beach by a two-metre high brick wall built by the local authority to prevent sea erosion.
At high tide, visitors can enjoy the sunset or sunrise or gaze at the stars while raging waves splash the wall.
For those who prefer the more typical beach scene, the new beach is the place. To get there from Banting, there is a right turn just before the L-corner where the old beach is located.
Here is a sandy stretch with shady casuarinas and bakau trees along the flat shore. Besides basic facilities like toilets and food stalls, the rest is nature.
While in the area, neighbouring kampungs which boast beautiful houses in well-landscaped surroundings are worth checking out. One such example, Kampung Indah, was once named the most well-landscaped village in Selangor.
Morib is also located within a 30-minute drive of the historical site of Jugra, the serene Paya Indah Wetlands, famous seafood eateries at Bagan Lallang and the impressively modern Kuala Lumpur International Airport. |
