http://www.middle-east-online.com/ During a recent press conference in Tunis the Minister of tourism, Mr Khalil Lajimi, said that some 7 million tourists will have visited Tunisia by the end of this year.
Revenues estimated from the sector should reach 3360 million dinars, he added.
Mr Lajimi also said that the impacts of the current international financial crisis have not yet been felt in Tunisia, adding that his department will elaborate by January 2009 a strategic study, for the promotion of the sector up to 2016.
This study, he said, will take into account the eventual impact of the financial crisis on tourism, as well as the solutions to counter them.
The Minister also evoked the upgrading of the sector which has touched some 141 hotels, as well as the training of professionals in the sector which is currently carried out in 6 major training sectors and from which 900 young people graduate each year.
The diversification of Tunisian tourism and the upgrading of tourist services were also evoked during the press conference.
Mr Lajimi reviewed the results achieved by the sector during the first 9 months of 2008, namely the fact that 5 million 639 thousand tourists visited Tunisia during this period, yielding 2532 million dinars of revenues.
This represents an increase of 25% in comparison with 2001 which is considered by professionals as a reference year, he said.
