Tourism accounts for six percent of the North African country's gross domestic product, almost a fifth of its foreign currency earnings and is the second biggest employer after agriculture.
The Tourism Ministry added that 2.469-million people visited the country in the first six months to June 20, 10 percent higher than in the same period in 2004.
It expects 6.5-million tourists for the whole year of 2005 after 5.9-million tourists visited Tunisia, Africa's second holiday destination after South Africa in terms of tourist numbers in 2004.
The Ministry said it envisages tourism revenue for the whole of 2005 expanding 11.3 percent to 2.550 billion dinars versus the previous year. |
