www.peregrineadventures.co.uk Peregrine Adventures combines a visit to the extraordinary and vibrant Pushkar Camel Fair with a fascinating journey through Rajasthan, departing Delhi 16th November 07. For one week only during the November full moon, the holy city of Pushkar in Rajasthan transforms into the world’s largest camel fair. Thousands of villagers, merchants and camel traders set up camp to buy, sell, barter and enjoy the festivities. Trading is brisk – over 25,000 camels and several thousand head of cattle will change hands. There are camel races, musicians entertaining the crowds and vendors peddling their wares at hundreds of roadside stalls. Everyone dresses up for the event, the menfolk wearing brightly coloured turbans and sporting magnificent moustaches, the women adorned in their finest jewellery. Other highlights of the tour include visiting India’s most famous site, the Taj Mahal and nearby Red Fort, the fortified Mughal capital of Fatehpur Sikri - a magnificent ghost city, once the capital of the Mughal Empire, and Jaipur, the rose-red capital of Rajasthan.
