The recent Beijing International Tourism Expo 2008, was hailed as a "big success" by both the organisers and the exhibitors.
According to the main organisers, Beijing Tourism Administration, BITE 2008's critical success factors were attributed to the following:
Coinciding with the much-anticipated Beijing 2008 Olympics Games, BITE 2008 was a major international event that showcased the upcoming Olympics Games and Tourism. With the main objective to promote Beijing and the Olympics Games, BITE 2008 provided an effective platform to foster interaction, exchanges and co-operation among Beijing, domestic and international tourism organisations.
Pending confirmation, there was an increase of approximately 10% in total amount of signed contracts and potential business collaborations. The staging of BITE 2008 resulted in economic benefits of some RMB80 million in value to various parties such as the exhibition centre, stand builders, advertising companies, and tourism organisations.
- Strong support from both Domestic and International Exhibitors, Trade Buyers and Visitors.
BITE 2008 attracted some 700 exhibitors and 300 trade buyers from 81 countries and 25 Chinese provinces occupying 22,000 square meters of gross exhibit space. Of the exhibitors, 380 were domestic and 320 international. There were 180 domestic and 120 international trade buyers walking the exhibition halls discussing business opportunities and collaborations as well as clinching contracts. More than 10,000 trade visitors and 20,000 public visitors attended the 3-day event.
- Emphasising on the theme "Experience Beijing's Run-Up to the Olympics", BITE 2008 had gained international attention and recognition, attracting interest from many participating countries. In all Ambassadors and Tourism Officials from 50 embassies in China graced the Opening of BITE 2008 on 19 June.
- Cultural performances put up by Exhibitors.
During the 3-days exhibition, visitors were treated to fascinating and entertaining cultural performances from nine countries and regions namely, Egypt, Korea, Marianas, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tunisia and Turkey. Domestic exhibitors from 10 provinces and cities like Beijing, Heibei, Shanxi, Tibet, Xinjiang and Zhangjiajie also put up a dazzling performances.
Special arrangements to visit attractions like the Happy Valley in Beijing on 19 June 2008 attracted some 800 international and domestic buyers and exhibitors. Visitors were treated to a spectacular musical stage performance known as the "Golden Mask Dynasty".
