www.tourismbrunei.com Brunei Tourism is profoundly shocked and saddened by the extent of devastation and loss of life suffered by some of our fellow member countries in ASEAN, as well as in countries in South Asia and East Africa, as a consequence of the massive earthquake and subsequent tidal waves that struck these regions on Sunday the 26th of December.
Brunei Tourism would like however to reassure the traveling public that Brunei, and indeed the whole Island of Borneo, was mercifully spared from the effects of this catastrophe, being located far from the earthquake’s epicenter and not having any coastal areas fronting the Indian Ocean. Therefore it is business as usual in Brunei and its tourist areas.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the victims of this tragedy, their families and friends, and we are confident that the region will recover from this latest blow inflicted indiscriminately by the forces of nature.
Brunei Darussalam, a peaceful and wealthy kingdom on the northern shores of Borneo, is known for having one of the most pristine tropical rainforest environments anywhere, as well as for the pomp and opulence of its centuries old monarchy, steeped in ancient Malay traditions.
With easy international direct access through its Royal Brunei Airlines carrier, and with an up-market product and image appealing to discerning travelers, Brunei is an exciting new destination waiting to be discovered.
