www.chnpress.com Considering the cultural background of Susa and its impact on the history and civilization of the area southwest of present-day Iran, experts of Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) are determined to compile Susa’s file to prepare the ground for its world registration in a near future.
According to Mirabedin Kaboli, archeologist who is in charge of preparing Susa’s file for world registration, the file will contain Susa and its surrounding historical sites as well as any evidence of continual civilized dwellings in the area from 5000 BC onwards.
“The reasons that make UNESCO registration of Susa important have already been submitted to ICHTO. Once approved, the file will be completed and send to UNESCO for registration in the list of World Heritage Sites,” said Kaboli to CHN.
Currently experts of ICHTO have started the project for preparing the file of a large number of archeological sites in Iran for inscribing them in UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites. Based on UNESCO’s regulations, each country is allowed to introduce only one monument for world registration per year and among the 178 member countries, only 30 monuments find their ways to the final list each year.
Susa was an ancient city of the Elamite Empire (3400-550 BC), located about 150 miles east of the Tirgis River in Khuzestan province of Iran. Susa is one of the most ancient settlements in the region, probably founded about 4000 BC, though the first traces of an inhabited village dating back to 7000 BC have been found in the area.
