www.tehrantimes.com The “7000 Years of Persian Art” exposition will be returning home from its long European tour within a week.
The Iranian antiquities, which are currently on display in Lisbon in an exposition that has been continuing for two months, will go on exhibit at the National Museum of Iran afterwards, curator Mohammadreza Kargar said on Saturday.
All the exhibitions which are currently on display in foreign countries will return to the country by the end of June, he added.
“New collections, such as ‘Forgotten Empire: The World of Ancient Persia’ at the British Museum in September, the Culture of Iran Exhibition in Mexico City, and the exhibition of historical artifacts of Iran entitled ‘The Glory of Iran’ in Japan are among the upcoming exhibitions,” he stated.
“7000 Years of Persian Art” displays a total of 178 rare historical masterpieces collected from various museums across the country.
It opened in Austria on November 22, 2000 at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, where it stayed for almost six months, and then traveled to Germany and Belgium.
Later on, it was held in Basel, Switzerland, and Spain was the next host.
The exhibition covers a wide period and includes clay figures from the 7th millennium BC as well as early Islamic era painted ceramic vessels from the 10th century CE.
Prehistoric Iranian ceramics are one of the numerous highlights of the exhibition. The various shapes and decorations document a varied and fascinating spectrum of early artistic creation. The magnificent gold and silver vessels of the Achaemenid kings (558-331 BC) are another highlight.
Of the numerous Sassanid works of art on display, the magnificently decorated silver vessels and the elaborate stucco decorations from Sassanid palaces are particularly eye-catching. The exhibition also features early Islamic era silver, ceramic, and glass vessels.
