Turkey in Brussels

www.zaman.com There is a Turkish atmosphere in Brussels nowadays. At every step, it is possible to encounter artists and academicians in the streets and the roads of the city. Turkey is there with its cultural colors, as well as with its politicians.
Strictly speaking, a "Turkish wind" is blowing through Brussels, which doubles as the capital of Belgium and the European Union (EU). The European Parliament (EP), in the middle of Brussels, is besieged by politicians and diplomats, who want no surprises, and the reporters who follow them. While a close watching of politicians continues, Brussels cinema, concert and exhibition halls have become the stage for Turkish artists tour de force.
The famous Hurrem Sultan (Roxelane) adorns the shop windows of cultural centers and stores in the streets of Brussels. One of the most outstanding concert and exhibition halls in Europe, the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels (Bozar-Beaux Arts) has a big poster hung on its door. Written on it is "Mothers, Goddesses and Hanim Sultans". It is the poster of an exhibition depicting women's adventure in Anatolia. The exhibition, with over 350 works of art, collected from museums of Louvre in France, Kunsthistorisches in Vienna, and the most well known museum in Berlin and Turkey, are presented to lovers of art as a unique visual show that they will never be able to see again. Solely a collection from Istanbul Topkapi Palace, residence of the Ottoman sultans, makes this exhibition worth viewing. |
