www.zaman.com The opening of the Turkish Culture Exhibition Wing in the National History Museum in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, marks Turkey's first museum abroad. The "Treasure of Bilge Khan" will be among the museum's main attractions.
The Turkish Cooperation and Development Administration (TIKA), working on the monuments of Bilge Khan, Kul Tigin and Tonyukuk for the past two years, has uncovered some very important artifacts. Some of those discoveries date back 1300 years. Archaeologists from Turkey found important heritage that clarifies some of the earliest parts of Turkish History. They unearthed 4,000 gold and silver artifacts, known as the "Treasure of Bilge Khan". Many archaeologists, from the U.S. to Denmark, had been pursuing this treasure for 110 years.
The protocol to extract the Gokturk Monument, the oldest Turkish writings in history, was signed in 1994. To this day, TIKA has spent 2 million dollar for excavation and restoration. Because of its poor physical conditions, the archaeologists had a tough task ahead of them. TIKA offered to move the historical materials to the National History Museum in Mongolia. Mongolia accepted this offer and in return permitted Turkey to open a Turkish Culture Exhibition Wing inside the museum. Among the treasures that will be displayed are Kul Tigin's golden sculpture and Bilge Khan's golden crown. Mongolian President Natsagin Bagabandi presided over the opening.
