Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, an affiliated institution to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) strongly condemns the racist Skåne Party’s distribution of posters insulting the Prophet Muhammed (S) and Islam in different places in Malmö , Sweden. We strongly believe that this action done with blind hatred and implemented intentionally is aimed only at disseminating religious intolerance and damaging inter-cultural and inter-religious empathy. ICYF-DC expresses its deep resentment with such a hatred spreading act perpetraited in a country with prominent culture of tolerance towards different religions and cultures.
We live in such a world where relationships and exchanges among different civilizations are tending to multiply and in which seemingly local insignificant incident may have worldwide negative consequences. Having this said we express our strong belief that cultivating values of mutual respect and tolerance as well as peaceful coexistence are vital in order to protect fragile trends of dialogue. It is deplorable that in globalized world in which the idea of Alliance of Civilizations is being implemented at the level of the UN as well as leading countries of the world such barbaric acts aim in fact at the sowing of seeds of enmity among the representatives of different religions.
This shameful act violating basic principles of human rights is contradicting relevant terms stipulated in the main documents of international law and offending dignity of hundred millions of Muslims following the Prophet Muhammed (S) throughout the world. The outrageous fact is that the head of Skåne party Carl Herslow who pretends to win the forthcoming municipal elections calls his voters to struggle against religion of Islam. “We're attacking Islam, not people who believe in Islam. We consider Islam to be very dangerous and psyco-social infectious disease," said Carl Herslow.
ICYF-DC uniting leading youth organizations of OIC domain and those of Western Muslim communities expresses its strong disapproval of putting of posters insulting religious beliefs of millions and calls upon media institutions to be cautious in such sensitive issues. We believe that, the freedom of expression does not mean freedom to insult and defame sanctuaries of others. At the same time we appeal to the relevant Swedish authorities bodies to take concrete steps to keep accountable those responsible for this hatred-spreading action and prevent acts of insult in the future. We also believe that for all bodies responsible for global dialogue of cultures, in particular Alliance of Civilizations it is time to step in with the unified message moving to concrete tangible actions.
We call on youth in Muslim world to contain their reactions in peaceful means. We also invite youth in Western, particularly European countries to join the efforts aimed at building bridges of understanding and respect to the representatives of religious minorities living in their countries.
