www.equineadventures.co.uk Equine Adventures has organised an equestrian expedition through the Taurus Mountains and the inaccessible lands of Southern Turkey.
The one-off 8-day horse-riding holiday offers an unforgettable mix of exhilarating riding, breathtaking scenery and magical experiences. The tour departs from London 28th June 2007.
On arrival in Kayseri, travellers are met and transferred to a charming guesthouse in the village of Ortahisar. On to Mount Pozanti at the foot of the Taurus chain, and the beginning of the adventure – before equine introductions and getting aquainted with the riding and equipment.
After lunch the spectacular journey begins, following trails through inaccessible lands of garrigues, pine forests, waterfalls and bare plateaux. Performed independently with carrier horses, this trip is also designed as an introduction to horse-trail techniques and physical fitness is crucial as riders will also be required to dismount and walk steep ascensions.
The journey continues to the valley of Demirkazik, at the foot of Mount Ala. The night is spent in a secluded bivouac under the stars.
Next day, is the ascent of the 3,200m high pass up to the moon-like landscape of Plateau of the Seven Lakes, a true highlight of the journey. After descending towards the southeast there is a ride through the Taurus chain, travelling amongst forest, green fields, crossing rivers and stopping for a refreshing dip under waterfalls!
Finally, leaving the mountains behind via the valley of Yayali, riders say farewell to their trusty steeds before heading back to Cappadocia and journey’s end.
Camp meals are a team effort, based on delicious Turkish cuisine with fresh products used each day and cooked over a campfire. The horses are small, friendly cross Arab breeds that are particularly suitable for tortuous tracks and paths. A support vehicle transports luggage and equipment, while a packhorse is used to carry picnic lunches and small items during the rides.
