www.zaman.com Award-winning Turkish film director Nuri Bilge Ceylan is displaying his photographs at the Milli Reasürans Art Gallery on April 3 and 28 as part of the side events of the İstanbul Film Festival, which kicked off last week.
The exhibition features photos that Ceylan took between 2003 and 2006, mainly those taken on his tours in search of a site to shoot his latest movie "İklimler" (Climates).
After completing his B.Sc. in electrical engineering, Ceylan studied cinema for two years. He entered the film industry with first short film "Koza" (Cocoon), which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995.
He received many awards with his debut feature "Kasaba" (Small Town), while more recognition, including the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Actor Prize at Cannes, came with his third feature "Uzak" (Distant). "Climates," Ceylan's latest feature-length movie won the FIPRESCI International Film Critics' Award at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. This last movie reignited his passion for photography.
The famous director usually addresses the estrangement of the individual, natural existentialism, monotonous real human lives and fundamental details of life.
The characters in his movies appear to be people from the everyday life whom the audience feels it can form a warm and friendly relationship.
The 26th International İstanbul Film Festival opened with the Turkey premiere of Ferzan ضzpetek's latest film "Bir ضmür Yetmez" (Saturno Contro) on Friday and will run until April 15.
