World’s Eyes Opened To Turkish Music

www.zaman.com Foreign fascination with popular Turkish pop music singers such as Tarkan, Mustafa Sandal and Kenan Dogulu has been extended to singers of Turkish folk and classical music.
While pop music singers usually perform for Turkish audiences abroad, government-funded orchestras and groups are starting to attract foreign audiences.
In 2006, many Turkish music groups, including such genres as sacred, mystical, folk, classic and historical have performed 118 times in 44 countries.
New offers for more performances are pouring in and large audiences are hearing great classical works of Turkish music.
Germany tops the list of countries where Turkish music groups have performed the most.
Large numbers of Turkish people in Germany are stimulating German interest in Turkish culture.
More and more concerts will be performed next year, said officials from the Turkish Ministry of Culture. |
