Akin 'Crossing the Bridge' Between East & West

www.zaman.com On one side of the bridge is Europe and the other side is Asia. These straits are the riches of Istanbul and are unrivalled in any city in the world.
In Istanbul, bridges are not just cold metal bulks on iron legs for vehicles to come and go in opposite directions. Bridges have a different meaning and a unique mission to unite cultures and traditions as well as peoples. Perhaps this is why Istanbul and its bridges are so often the subject of documentaries and films. Now Turkish German film director Fatih Akin follows up the success of his film "Against the Wall", with a documentary about the music of Istanbul with the bridges as a central motif. His new documentary "Crossing the Bridge" takes the cinema audience on a trip through Istanbul, listening to the music and feeling the atmosphere of the city. Recently screened at the Cannes festival, "Crossing the Bridge" is now being screened in Turkey.
Akin's film uses the music of contemporary artists such as Baba Zula and Replikas, both with exciting new albums out now, to ponder how the music of Turkey appears to an outsider in this fascinating documentary. |
