Bahrain is to introduce a zoning plan for tourism, taking tourism attractions away for residential and religious areas,
while also intensifying inspections to curtail irregularities in the tourism sector, Minister for Information Nabeel Al Hamer has said here.
The kingdom is keen on developing and promoting family tourism and steps and measures are being taken to ensure the objective is achieved, the minister told parliament at its weekly meeting.
In line with these measures, a new tourism law is being drafted to help make Bahrain a global holiday destination, he said.
Ten travel agencies have been closed down for not following rules and regulations set by the ministry for the tourism sector.
The ministry is also following up with the activities of hotels, restaurants and nightspots, and more unannounced visits by undercover inspectors will be implemented to ensure that rules and regulations are strictly honoured, he added.
Plans are afoot to create separate zones for tourism attractions, which will be away from residential areas, schools and religious places, Mr Al Hamer noted.
He stressed that Bahrain is working very keenly on stamping out indecent and immoral acts that are being committed under the guise of tourism.
