Khaleej Times: Pakistan has identified Gulf as a major market for the promotion of Destination Pakistan 2007 year. Its Ministry of Tourism and Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation along with seven leading tour operators and hoteliers participated at ATM in Dubai.
Salman Javed, managing director of PTDC, told a news conference at the Pakistan pavilion that one of the packages available for people hailing from Pakistan from the British India period or those who are living outside Pakistan was "Discover Your Roots."
They were also targeting the family segment of the Emirati population since the culture and food are similar. Also, expats working in the oil sector can go on leave to ski resorts in Pakistan in just two to three hours. Health tourism was also being promoted in the Gulf.
Salman said that Pakistan has set a target of one million foreign visitors for 2007, compared to 800,000 visitors in 2006. The PTDC has 38 motels at tourist locations in Pakistan.
Some 54 events in various provinces have been planned throughout the year.
Pakistan will participate in six major international travel trade events. These are in Dubai, London, Berlin, Japan, Beijing and Delhi.
