PTI The killer earthquake that struck Jammu and Kashmir has left a mark on historic shrines with several religious places, including the Hazratbal mosque, developing cracks.
The tomb of the Hazratbal shrine on the outskirts of Srinagar was slighly damaged and some of the mosque's walls developed cracks, official sources said.
The shrine of Sufi saint Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani at Charar-e-Sharief in Badgam district suffered minor damage with one of its walls developing cracks, they said.
The historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar and Jamia Masjids (Grand mosques) at Khonmoh, Kakpora and Rajpora also suffered minor damage in the devastating quake.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who visited Hazratbal this morning, said a Central team would soon assess the damage wrought by the quake on heritage buildings.
However, "there is no serious damage," he said adding he had directed the team comprising experts, who are responsible for preservation of historic monument Taj Mahal and other heritage buildings, to inspect shrines in the valley to assess the damage. PTI
