Regent Street Festival 2007: An Indian Summer

Regentstreetonline.com An estimated 600,000 visitors came to the Regent Street Festival 2007 on Sunday 2nd September 2007, for one of the most exciting outdoor FREE street events in London , showcasing all the flair, colour and magic of India . Regent Street was closed to traffic for the day, whilst dance processions, theatre and musical displays transported audiences to a country famed for its exotic festivals.
Organised by the Regent Street Association and supported by the Indian Ministry of Tourism - Incredible India, the Mayor of London, Visit London, The Crown Estate, Westminster City Council and the New West End Company. The Regent Street Festival is the climax of the Mayor of London’s three month India Now season, which has seen over 200 cultural organisations and attractions participate across London .
Shoppers enjoyed discounts and special in store activities at Regent Street shops.
Indian street food was cooked and served on Regent Street by Masala Zone; estimating 20,000 tomatoes, 60,000 onions, 100 kilos of chilli, 100 kilos of spices, 1000 kilos of cooked rice and 300,000 litres of water. Masala Zone is the sister restaurant of Veeraswamy on Regent Street and is famously the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK .
Regent Street continues to flourish with the £500 million remodelling and revitalisation programme by The Crown Estate, which is creating a quality environment for Londoners and tourists alike.
