Horseback Trek In Kyrgystan

www.equineadventures.co.uk Writer and descendant of author Leo Tolstoy, Alexandra Tolstoy and her Tatar husband, Shamil Galimzyanov lead Equine Adventures new 14-day Sary Chelek Expedition horseback adventure, riding deep in to the Kyrgystan wilderness, experiencing magnificent mountain views, passing rushing ice-melt rivers, visiting local summer yurts, and perhaps watching a game of ulak, (polo except with a dead goat), departing Bishkek 19th June 2008.
This new expedition takes place in Kyrgystan’s Sary Chelek Reserve situated in the Arkit Gorge, a relatively small mountain hollow in the Chaktal Mountains. Founded in 1959 to protect and research the pristine natural landscape this magnificent region consists of steep-sided, wooded valleys, aquamarine lakes, glaciers and permanent ice fields, and alpine meadows - with varied flora and fauna. More than 1,000 species of plants, 160 species of birds and 34 species of mammal (such as Bear, Lynx, Wolf, Porcupine and even Snow Leopard) can be found in this relatively small, unspoilt national park.
