Ambitious tourism development plans for Musandam

Sheikh Said bin Mohammed bin Ali Al Buraiki, governor of Musandam, has said a number of tourism projects will be implemented shortly in the governorate as part of the government’s efforts in developing tourism in the Sultanate and boosting the flow of tourists in a way to contribute to the economic development of the country.
Speaking to Oman News Agency, Al Buraiki said Musandam witnessed a sustainable growth in the tourism development during the last many years, noting that there were a number of tourist sites and lot of historical and archaeological places in addition to a number of natural sites such as mountains, plains, islands, wadis which attract thousands of tourists in and outside the Sultanate.
He pointed out that some tourism projects currently being underway, such as construction of a hotel having 43 apartments in the wilayat of Diba, is expected to be completed by next year.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently implemented some major tourism projects in Musandam governorate such as Khasab Golden Tulip Hotel, which is one of the main tourist attractions in the region.
He hoped that the Khasab Seaport project would boost trade exchanges between the countries, paving the way for economic development in the region.
Musandam has a geographical and strategical significance as it is near to the Hormuz Strait through which 90 per cent of the oil in the Gulf is being exported.
Khasab Castle, dating back to 250 years, is a historical and archaeological monument, which attracts many tourists.
In the Qada village, carvings and drawings can be seen on the rocks. Other tourist attractions of the wilayat include Kamzar Strait, Shisa Strait, Shamm Plain, Al Nid Plain, Qada Plain in addition to a number of small islands such as Nadheefa, Al Ghanam, Ummu Thair, Salama, Ummul Faiyarin, Al Khail, Makhbuq, Abu Mukhalif and Sawik. A natural park in Roudha is a main tourist attraction.
The wilayat of Bakha, west of Ras Al Khaima, is also a tourist destination and famous for caves and castles.
The wilayat of Madha is characterised by its geographical features, filled with wadis and falajs and famous for cultivation of a number of fruits. |
