Oman Air's Hill to stay on as search for new CEO continues

Peter Hill, the outgoing CEO of Oman Air, has delayed his departure from the company, as the board of Oman's national airline continues to draw a blank in finding a replacement for the man who has overseen dramatic investments in the aircraft and addition of new routes.
Expected to leave the position he has occupied for the past three years at some point this month, Hill revealed to Muscat Daily that he had been asked to continue for a short term until a suitable candidate can be found to take over the reins.
He said it is up to the board to determine who this person will be and that although the timescale for a resolution to the search was unknown, he was prepared to stay in Oman until the end of the year. "I will be staying on for another few months as CEO of Oman Air while the board continues to search for my replacement. When one is found, I will leave the post."
Under Hill, a deal for seven Airbus A330s was reached with the European manufacturer to add a long-haul dimension to Oman Air, which also recently added smaller short-haul Brazil-made Embraer aircrafts and complement routes where passenger numbers could be low. The deals expanded the number and flexibility of routes that Oman Air traditionally supplied, before Hill took over in 2008.
In a recent interview, Hill admitted that high fuel prices and the potential impact of social changes wrought by the Arab Spring could affect the hopes of making the third and final year of his tenure at the airline into a profitable one.
