Salalah Tourism Festival kicked off here yesterday to a colourful start. Fireworks lit up the skies of Ateen plain and the Municipality Recreation Centre as folk troupes put up a show of traditional dances and songs. The ceremony, held at the Municipality Recreation Centre, was presided over by Sahikh Mohammed bin Marhoon al Maamari, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
Al Maamari unveiled the plaque of “Land of Friendship and Peace” exhibition, which embodies the efforts made by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in nation-building and spreading of the message of peace domestically and abroad. The guests toured the exhibition, which showcases 120 photographs of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos clicked by Mohammed Mustapha, Personal Photographer of His Majesty the Sultan.
The pictures are put in four sections. The first one, “Social Peace”, reflects the leader’s contact with the people. The second section, focusing on economy, depicts how the Sultanate established a stable and diversified economy. The third section, about “Political Peace”, demonstrates His Majesty the Sultan’s efforts in enhancing regional and international peace.
The fourth section is devoted to environmental conservation espoused by the Sultanate. Al Maamari also toured the exhibitions of countries sponsoring the month-long tourism festival. The programme will be staged in six theatres at the Municipality Recreation Centre, which occupies an area of 514 square metres. |
