A Saudi in the central province of Qassim took the initiative to develop an age-old natural reservoir and make it one of the city's tourist attractions with the support of the municipality and tourism authorities.
"This water spring has been there for thousands of years and people used to visit the place to enjoy the scenery," said Ajlan Al-Ajlan, who was responsible for the scheme.
The reservoir is located close to a mountainous area in Watat, a previously abandoned region.
The Qassim municipality and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities' (SCTA) office commended Al-Ajlan for his initiative and agreed to list the reservoir among the tourist spots in the province.
"I liked this place being a lover of natural scenes and when I proposed the development of the area for tourism purposes the municipality asked me to supervise the development work," Al-Ajlan said.
Al-Ajlan then sought the help of an expert who had experience in developing such mountainous areas. "I appreciate the quick response of the municipality and the SCTA to my proposal."
A team from the municipality and the SCTA visited the place after the completion of the project's first phase. Jasser Al-Harbash, executive director of the SCTA in Qassim, commended Al-Ajlan for his initiative and urged the public to follow his example.
The municipality supported the project through its contractor while the SCTA provided necessary funds to carry out the project.
