Haj projects to better organize Makkah: Naif

The Royal go-ahead and finance for various Haj projects will turn Makkah into a modern urban city, enabling pilgrims to easily access the Holy Haram from different routes, said Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister.
This came in a statement issued by Prince Naif after the 18th annual regional emirs' meeting here Sunday. The meeing was chaired by Prince Naif.
The Makkah Development Commission, Prince Naif said, has made big strides in implementing various Haj projects. The Central Haj Committee which he chairs will meet in the next few days to check on the progress of these projects. "Earlier I was briefed on these projects. I expect that the projects will be completed before Haj," he said.
Prince Naif said he expects Umrah pilgrims to increase beyond the estimated 4.2 million during and after Ramadan. He paid tribute to the traffic department in Makkah for its integrated plan which has facilitated the flow of traffic. He also praised the work of government and non-government agencies involved in services for Umrah pilgrims and visitors. "This explains why the Umrah performers and the service bodies are not facing problems."
Prince Naif said the country's emirs are guided by the King's directives when taking decisions on providing services to citizens, stressing that the focus is now on the many housing projects in the Kingdom. "These projects are progressing according to the set timetable," Prince Naif noted.
About skyrocketing prices, Prince Naif said there are Royal orders to the authorities concerned, especially the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to tackle the issue given that the government subsidizes some essential food products.
Prince Naif urged businessmen to stick to reasonable prices and limit their profits. "The businessmen are citizens. We are not skeptical about their love for their country. A system of monitoring and follow-up will put an end to the price hikes, Allah willing.
"We are not ignoring increase in prices from the points of origin, but still have trust in all merchants, big or small, that above all they will behave as good Muslims, ensure their patriotism exceeds their personal interest and not to exploit the need of consumers for a certain product." |
