www.equineadventures.co.uk Equine Adventures’ 10-day Station to Station horseback adventure offers a unique opportunity to ride through New Zealand's spectacular high country visiting sheep stations and staying with farmers and their families along the way. London departures are available each Friday from now until May 07.
The ride focuses on New Zealand’s South Island and the spectacular Huruni Range of North Canterbury.
After an overnight stay at Pat Manning’s farmstay, the ride heads into the foothills, via an old gold-mining trail. Sure-footed horses pick their way along the rugged Seaward River Gorge, through beech forest, over mountain passes and across some of the biggest stations in the region.
At the last count, New Zealand had 45 million sheep – approximately 13 times as many sheep as people! Guests and their mounts billet with farmers and are both well fed and watered each night, just what’s needed after a long day in the saddle.
On the more remote stations families are self-sufficient and everything from honey to meat is home-produced. Each morning, riders are supplied with plentiful packed lunches and equipped with full-length Drizabone coats and hats for the day’s ride.
As the climate is similar to the UK, even the summer weather can be unpredictable. Luggage is transported from station to station by four-wheel drive vehicle each day. |
