An online international photography competition was launched Last Monday (18th July 2011) to kick start August, the month of Heritage of the Visit Sri Lanka year. The theme of the photography competition is the Kandy Esala Perehara, Sri Lanka’s most famous and flamboyant religious festival held in the hill-capital Kandy, attracting thousands from all over the island and beyond.
The online platform for the competition, the website www.kandyinfocus.com was launched today at Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo, by the Diyawadana Nilame, Honorable Nilanga Dala Bandara. The event was graced by Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism, Dilum Perera, the Managing Director of Ceylon Sights, Mr.Wrixon Wong, Senior Regional Manager Canon Singapore, Mr.J.J Ambani,The Chairman Metropolitan Group, Mr.Bandula Padmakumara, the Chairman Lake House and representatives from partner organizations. The Temple of the Tooth, Sri Lanka Tourism, Canon Singapore Pvt. Ltd., Metropolitan, Ceylon Sights Pvt. Ltd, have joined efforts to launch this international photography contest to celebrate the month of heritage in matching style, by celebrating the grandeur of a sacred cultural heritage of the country.
Since the launch of www.kandyinfocus.com today, the competition is open for all under two categories; local and foreign. The Contestant can upload images of Kandy Esala Perehera to the web address. The online registrations and photo uploads can be made through out the month of August which host ten days of flamboyant activity which culminates in an ancient, awe-inspiring pageant that for centuries has drawn religious devotees, and more recently tourists, to the beautiful Kandyan hills. August 31st will be the closing date of the competition.
The first place winner under the category ‘Foreign’ would be awarded a return air ticket by Sri Lankan Airlines and 10 more prizes would be given to the winners of this category.
