With the onset of summer, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) announced the launch of the much anticipated second annual beach festival in Hikkaduwa. The festival will run from 30th July until the 2nd of August. During this festival, a number of events and activities will be conducted for vacationers and residents alike in and around Hikkaduwa in the southern coastal strip of the country.
“With the onset of summer, we are receiving a number of inquiries from regional travelers to escape to cooler climes and the beach festival offers a short break for Gulf travelers as it coincides with the weekend here,” remarked Ms Heba Al Ghais Al Mansoori, Middle East Director of SLTPB.
She noted that the Hikkaduwa Beach Fest is Sri Lanka’s biggest beach festival, with top international artistes and DJs flown into Sri Lanka especially for the four-day mega event.
The Beach Sports Festival will be a key highlight at this year’s festival, with volleyball, netball, football and rugby all set to be featured. The sports festival will be held from 30th July to 2nd August at the Coral Sands’ beach.
This year’s festival is expected to match the success of last year with about 10,000 people expected throughout the four days. The event attracts a diverse demographic ranging from children to adults. The beach festival includes various activities ranging from beach raves to a drum festival, theme parties and day time carnivals for families, with special activities for kids.
With peace finally prevailing after almost three decades of strife, Sri Lanka is an ideal getaway for regional travelers being only three and a half hours flying time away from the Gulf.
This tropical isle offers diverse choices for the traveler including hiking tours that take in the varied landscapes of the island and can be conducted at a gentle pace opening up the colorful and abundant array of plants, bird species and other wildlife to be found across the countryside.
Regardless of whether it’s excitement or relaxation that a traveler craves for, Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and history has captivated and charmed countless travelers who have visited. |
