http://www.undiscovered-destinations.com/ Undiscovered Destinations 13-day Best of Uganda tour focuses on Uganda's raw beauty, including Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth II National Park, and Jinja, the place where 19th century explorer John Hanning Speke declared he'd found the source of the Nile.
Primates are the wildlife highlight of the tour, and in the forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ranger-guided treks search out scintillating encounters with habituated Mountain Gorilla groups, part of a remaining global population of under 900 individuals. Tours depart London 8th June and 14th September 2008.
Upon arrival in Entebbe, a city tour of Kampala precedes a brief road transfer to St Bruno camp and a first night under canvas. Murchison Falls, about 300km distant, is the following day's destination. Here, game drives along the northern bank of the Nile and ranger-guided walks are included during a 2-night stay at Paraa Lodge.
Wildlife sights feature lion, giraffe, elephant, Ugandan kob and a wide variety of birds. A long road transfer south takes travellers to Kibale Forest where the following day is spent on foot tracking chimpanzees and monkeys. Continuing to Queen Elizabeth II National Park and Mweya Safari Lodge, early morning game drives through the park's northerly extent follow the Kasenyi track.
An afternoon cruise on the Kazunga river reveals hippo and buffalo cooling off by the water's edge. A relaxed journey through mountainous landscapes, often referred to as Uganda's little Switzerland, brings travellers to Bwindi, and Kitandari permanent tented camp. An early start next day sees a briefing from park rangers, with visitors paying particular attention to appropriate non-threatening body language in the presence of a 350lb male silverback Mountain Gorilla.
Tracking usually commences from the last known sighting of the gorillas and can result in an almost immediate encounter or a long and strenuous trek through difficult terrain. Groups are limited to one hour with the gorillas per day. After a further night in Bwindi, travellers return to St Bruno camp near Kampala and following day make excursions to Jinja, famous for Speke's discovery of the Nile's source, Ssezibwa Falls, Mabira Forest and Bujagali Falls. A last night at St Bruno precedes homeward flights next day.
