www.tribes.co.uk For those wanting an rainforest experience with abundant wildlife, comfortable accommodations and the participation of a local community, Napo Wildlife Centre on the south bank or the Napo River in Ecuador is an excellent option. The lodge is a partnership between an Ecuadorian conservation group and the residents of the Centro Quichua Aٌangu Community, and the proceeds of the lodge pay directly for the conservation of 82 square miles of pristine lowland rainforest and the Yasuni National Park, and also help improve education and healthcare in the community.
The lodge is located on the bank of an oxbow lake and offers some of the most comfortable accommodation in the Amazon. With only 10 double cabaٌas the visitor numbers are much smaller than those found at other nearby lodges providing a more intimate rainforest experience.
Wildlife viewing at the lodge is superb, and includes species such as the Golden Mantle Tamarin and the Giant Otter that can only be found on the south bank of the Napo River. Eleven species of monkeys inhabit the surrounding forest, and the lodge bird list numbers more than 560 species. Many of these species can be seen from the Napo Wildlife Centre canopy tower, 35-metres above the forest floor. And a favourite of many visitors are the parrot and parakeet clay licks that are part of the private reserve. |
