www.allafrica.com Libya and Zambia have signed an investment agreement for the development of tourism and agriculture.
In a recent editorial, The Times of Zambia commented that going by what government has achieved in tourism in the last three years or so, it is very clear that the sector is not only key in the country's economic recovery programme, but ranks second to copper in generating the nation's much needed foreign income earnings.
It is only in farming and tourism that more jobs have been created in recent years than any other industry, particularly since the demise of the privatisation programme.
The land requested by Libya in Serenje, Central Province has been agreed on and Tripoli intends to put up a modern hotel, complete with a shopping mall.
Initially, the hotel was proposed to be constructed in Livingstone, but President Mwanawasa has suggested either the Copperbelt, Lusaka or Central Province. The editorial concluded that it is heartening to note is that Libya has a lot of experience in the development of tourism and is now focusing on the European and African markets. |
