Eturbo News: Just like its maiden voyage to Newark, New Jersey last month, Qatar Airways' arrival in Washington, DC is expected to be greeted with a "fireman's salute" water arch ceremony and a fanfare of music and entertainment.
Just weeks after Qatar Airways’ much-touted maiden voyage to the United States, the Middle East carrier is set to add a second US city to its list of destinations.
After touching down in Newark, New Jersey on June 26, Qatar Airways is looking to land at Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC on July 19.
Just like its Newark arrival, Qatar’s arrival in Washington, DC is likely to be greeted with a "fireman's salute" water arch ceremony and a fanfare of music and entertainment.
The new service from the Qatari capital of Doha will signal the first daily, non- stop service to Washington by a Middle Eastern carrier, and mark the 78th international destination for Qatar Airways.
“This is an historic first for Qatar Airways as we open two major gateways in such quick succession,” Qatar Airways chief executive Al Baker said. "[I] feel honored to see the national carrier of my country make its mark in North America for the second time in only three weeks.”
"I would like to thank the authorities in both America and Qatar for making our historic second American route a reality," he added.
According to Qatar Airways, the launch of its two US flights is the highlight of the carrier’s route expansion during 2007, which has already seen Dar es Salaam, Lagos, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, Chennai and Geneva added to the carrier's burgeoning network. On November 30, the carrier launches services to the Swedish capital, Stockholm.
Separately, Qatar Airways’ all-Airbus fleet may soon change, as the Middle East carrier has reportedly placed an order for 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Both Qatar and Boeing have yet to make an official statement on the order. The US commercial aircraft manufacturer unveiled the Dreamliner successfully last week, with a reported close to 700 orders worth more than $100 billion.
