Egerton University in Njoro, is set to become a major tourist attraction.
"The institution has teamed up with stakeholders in the North Rift region to market Lord Egerton's Castle," the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ezra Maritim, said.
The castle will be turned into the first agricultural museum in Kenya, and will feature farm tools used by early White settlers.
The castle attracts foreign tourists and students from various educational institutions, according to Prof Maritim.
There are plans to set up a reptile park at the castle, to be opened by Vice-President Moody Awori in March.
Crocodiles, tortoises, snakes and lizards would be kept at the park, he said.
The university has refurbished the castle to its original state.
The VC was speaking during the memorial day of the founder of the university, Lord Egerton.
The ceremony was attended by the university community. The VC appealed to those who had bought artefacts from the castle to donate or sell them to the institution.
The castle has so far got back a Bible, a bed and a mattress from Rev Arthur Kinyanjui of the Nakuru Baptist Church.
