Welcome to the ice hotel

Sunday Mirror 14 December 2003
Peek into a chapel to see a white wedding and stand beneath a crystal chandelier twinkling with a thousand fibre optic lights.
This sounds like any grand hotel except the cathedral-like building is made from 350 tonnes of ice and 10,000 tonnes of snow. The Hotel Glace is a giant igloo, built each winter in Quebec’s Deuchesnay nature reserve. It opens for business in January and closes for melt-down in April, Skate from the ice rink into the hotel and take in a movie in the chilly cinema. Soak in the jacuzzi and then cool off with a roll in the snow. Hire skis to explore trails around frozen lakes and join a dog sledding run through the forest by moonlight. Bedrooms are ultra-cool with chairs and beds carved from ice but you’ll be cosy in thermal PJs and artic-weight sleeping bags. Contact: www.icehotel-canada.com
