www.thegreatsilkroad.com In 2007 a unique site – the National Wildlife Museum – will appear at the Kopetdag foothills, south-west of Ashgabat. The museum will occupy an area of 40 hectares.
The biggest part of the complex will host the zoological park, which will be created in conformity with modern international standards and requirements of wildlife protection. The new zoo will become a home to 2700 animals representing 300 species of the world’s fauna. All air-open cages will be provided with conditions similar to the natural habitat of the animals. A special tent-like enclosure for the birds, huge aquariums and artificial reservoirs with running water for marine animals will be built. One of the most exotic and popular places in the museum will be a dolphinarium.
This unique complex will also host museum building consisting of two big halls and a 41-metre-high viewing tower. The museum will introduce visitors to the fauna of Turkmenistan in the pre-historic period, as well as rare species and those which became extinct within the last hundred years. The Turkish construction company Bim Inshaat has started the work on the lay-out and preparation for laying the building’s foundation
