Exciting World-Class Attractions and Events Await Visitors
In Upcoming Months
Singapore remains a leading destination for Middle East travellers with a record number of travellers visiting Singapore in the first five months of the year.Ă‚Â
A total of 44,080 Middle East-based travellers visited Singapore in May this year – an eight percent increase over 2008 – with UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran remaining the strongest growth markets. In addition, new flights from Riyadh and Kuwait City to Singapore have allowed even more Gulf travellers to enjoy the Garden City.
In the second half of 2009, pulsating events such as the 2009 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix and Singapore GP Seasons will offer high energy entertainment for both racing and non-racing fans. New iconic developments such as ION Orchard shopping mall and the opening of Singapore’s 1st Integrated Resort – the Marina Bay Sands TM will add to Singapore’s vast array of lifestyle options.
Singapore continues to invest in its tourism products; with the completion of a multi-million dollar refurbishment of Orchard Road - Singapore’s premier shopping district – and the launch of new shopping malls such as Orchard Central and Illuma Shopping Centre.  New hotel developments such as the exclusive Capella Singapore and Ibis Singapore offer quality accommodation options for all budgets.
“Singapore is a destination that is constantly transforming. Middle East visitors continue to enjoy our world-class attractions such as Sentosa Island which was recently awarded ‘Most Popular Large Attraction’ at the Asian Attractions Awards, and the world’s largest observation wheel – the Singapore Flyer. And with a host of upcoming developments, we are confident that Singapore will continue to be a firm favourite for Middle East travellers,” said Randall Tan, Regional Director for South Asia, Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.
“We are mindful of the current challenging tourism environment and we are formulating new strategies and promotions to ensure Singapore remains a top destination for discerning travellers,” Mr Tan concluded. |
