The Reel Yemen Revealed in New Yemen Tourism Advert

Yemen uses fictional story filmed elsewhere to promote the reality of an extraordinary destination

The Yemen Tourism Promotion Board (YTPB) for the UK and Ireland has produced a 30 second advert promoting Yemen as a tourism destination, titled One country... Many destinations. Due to be released this Friday, the 20th April, in 248 cinema screens across the UK alongside the new box-office hit Salmon Fishing in the Yemen starring British beauties Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor.

Although, bucking the trend for authenticity in film-making, the motion picture itself was filmed mainly in Morocco, the advert gives audiences an insight of the real Yemen through images depicting beautiful natural sites, enchanting architecture and colourful culture. YTPB’s UK representative, Benjamin Carey, said “this is a great opportunity for viewers to learn more about the unique magnificence of Yemen’s destinations from the advert, and learn more about the history and culture of the country from the film”. Scuba diving, paragliding, the untouched beauty of Socotra island in the Indian Ocean and  the ancient skyscrapers of the World Heritage Site and capital Sana’a are among the images waiting to be discovered by cinema-goers and, of course, for those adventurous enough to make the journey.

Digital Cinema Media (DCM), who produced the advert, are the frontrunners in nurturing creativity within the industry. Laurence Collings, Head of Client Development at DCM, said “we have really enjoyed working on the Yemen Tourism advert as it demonstrates growing creativity in an emerging destination and successfully captures the beautiful scenes of exotic, unexplored and exciting locations in the country”.

What this film and advert highlight are that the ebb and flow of the Arab Spring and the political changes in Yemen finding increased serenity and booking a flight to Yemen would be real catch.

Visit www.yementourism.com and watch the advert on YouTube at http://youtu.be/67V3pgTK0-4 to and discover more about Yemen. Please keep visiting the website to enter into a competition, to win a free trip including flights and accommodation, which will be released in the near future.
