Wide Media Exposure For Abu Dhabi Tourism

www.khaleejtimes.com Abu Dhabi’s initiatives to boost its tourism industry and gain international exposure in world media have paid dividends, a media analysis report has found.

The report by Media Watch Middle East, a specialised media monitoring organisation, found Abu Dhabi got the most extensive media coverage of any Arab destination during the travel exhibitions held in London and Barcelona recently.

Media Watch Middle East said the coverage of Abu Dhabi's participation at the World Travel Market in London and EIBTM in Barcelona during the period from November 12 to December 5, 2005 included 581 articles in 800 pages in the UAE and Britain as well as international publications in English and Arabic.

The report said 495 articles were published in UAE publications, comprising 321 in Arabic and 174 in English.

In British newspapers and magazines, 40 articles were carried in 233 magazine pages. The number of articles carried in international newspapers and magazines totalled 46, of which 25 were in Arabic and 21 in English.

Media Watch Middle East monitored all newspapers and magazines published in English and Arabic in the UAE, as well as British and European publications specialising in the travel and tourism industry.

The Emirates News Agency (Wam) published 19 reports and 78 photos about the two events. Abu Dhabi TV broadcast more than 30 minutes of daily reports on the activities .

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority won the "Best Stand Award" at the World Travel Market 2005. Hotels and other tourism organisations participating under the Authority's banner reported success in signing up new business with European and international tour operators during the show.

Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, also had a strong presence at the London exhibition.

In Barcelona, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority focused its efforts on attracting conference and incentive travel organisers, highlighting Abu Dhabi's attractions, facilities and services as a venue for business-related travel.
